How Does Ultherapy Skin Tightening Work?

The ultrasound energy heats tissue deep in the skin, stimulating the body’s natural healing response, which causes collagen to form. In two to three months, this new collagen will have tightened and firmed your skin, giving it a fresh, youthful look.

Ultherapy is perfect for many areas of the body, such as the eyebrows, jaw line, chest, and jowls. The treatment is available at Malik Medical Aesthetics in Mullica Hill, NJ, and also in Vineland, NJ and Springfield, PA.

Ultherapy Procedure

The procedure only lasts an hour and a half. Your Malik Medical Aesthetics skin care expert will first clean the treatment site and apply ultrasound gel to your skin. They will then use Ultherapy’s ultrasound imaging to determine the appropriate depth to apply the therapeutic sound energy before using the ultrasound skin therapy applicator to deliver focused sound pulses into your skin. You will likely be able to feel the sound energy entering your skin, and this may be painful, so if you have a low tolerance for pain, you may be able to use a sedative for the Ultherapy treatment.

What to Expect from Ultherapy?

There is no down time for Ultherapy, and there is no need to undergo any special skin care routine before or after the procedure.

The non-invasive nature of Ultherapy skin lifting means that side effects at the treatment site are frequently mild and temporary. These side effects may include:

  • Redness, which may last only few hours
  • Swelling, which may last less than three days
  • Pain, which may last less than two days
  • Tingling, bruising, or tenderness, which may last between two days and two weeks
  • Transient numbness or pain, which may last between two and six weeks

Ultherapy FAQs

How does Ultherapy stimulate the creation of collagen?

Ultherapy uses ultrasound energy to heat tissue deep under the skin’s surface, stimulating healing. The healing response includes neocollagenesis, the body’s natural process of producing collagen.

How long do Ultherapy results last?

Your skin’s natural age-related decrease in collagen production will determine how long the Ultherapy results last. Some patients who choose Ultherapy may want re-treatment every year or so to maintain results.

Will I need more than one Ultherapy treatment?

Most Ultherapy patients choose to have only one treatment, but whether or not you want further treatments depends on your cosmetic needs. Your skin will continue to age normally after the Ultherapy procedure, so you may benefit from occasional touch-up.

How is Ultherapy different from lasers?

Lasers use light energy; Ultherapy uses sound. Lasers cannot safely penetrate deeper than the surface of the skin and are not FDA-approved to lift skin. Ultherapy is FDA-approved to lift skin and able to treat tissue at depths that no other non-invasive cosmetic procedure is capable of.

Who is a good candidate for Ultherapy?

Anyone with mild to moderate skin looseness (laxity) might be a good candidate for Ultherapy, especially if their skin laxity is affecting their eyebrow line, neck, chin, or chest. The best way to know if you are a good candidate for Ultherapy is to ask a healthcare provider.

Can Ultherapy replace a face lift?

While Ultherapy is a great alternative to surgery for those who do not want an invasive treatment, it does not last as long as surgery.
