Fat Transfer to Face in Philadelphia and NJ

Fat Transfer to Face a.k.a. 3-D Facial Fat Grafting

For years, patients have undergone traditional facelifts that primarily consisted of pulling the skin up and outward, cutting away the excess skin and suturing it. The number one fear patients have when considering a traditional facelift is "looking completely different"!

So an alternative way to establish a more natural, refreshed, youthful look is to replace lost facial volume. A 3-D approach by transplanting "living" fat cells from another part of the body to the face results in a restoration of facial volume, therefore resulting in a more vibrant, healthy appearance.

"Fat Bags" under the eyes is often misunderstood as the increased growth of fat. In many cases the culprit is actually the loss of a more superficial layer of fat from the upper cheek area known as the malar fat pad that unmasks the underlying fat pad just below the eyes. Facial Fat 3-D grafting of the superficial layer of the fat just under the eyes as well as beneath the upper eyebrow region can result in a more natural open awake look for the patient as opposed to a "surprised" look that may accompany more traditional surgery.

How it Works & What to Expect

3-D facial fat grafting is performed under local anesthesia and without scalpels. Through small needle puncture sites, fat cells will be suctioned from the donor site (abdomen, flanks or thigh areas). The recovered fat cells will then be placed through a thin blunt needle into the appropriate areas to restore the 3-dimensional shape of the face.

It may take several injection sessions to achieve a long-lasting effect. Facial fat transfers have been reported to achieve effects from three to eight years from the initial procedure*.

Who is a Good Candidate?

A healthy person who wants to relocate fat in their body to improve their appearance in a natural way. The person must have enough fat present on their body to be able to have the procedure be successful. A short evaluation will be performed during a consultation to make sure enough fat is present for a transfer.

Recovery & Results

Recovery instructions will be provided as there is some special care and down time needed.

Results will vary and will be noticeable over time as the fat establishes a new blood supply  in the transferred area.
